Before a nap, after lunch, after bath, and before bedtime are all good reading times. The basic idea is to capitalize on periods when baby is receptive. Do not force your child to sit still when he wants to practice walking or when he is too tired or hungry. This will only frustrate him and make the reading experience unpleasant.
Erika recommendsreading to baby regularly, twice a day, every day. Start with a short span of five to six minutes for each reading session and as your baby’s attention span increases, lengthen the reading time. Continue reading →
What a day! You have taught me, guided me and instilled wisdom in me my entire life. You have been a wonderful father and I sincerely hope that I can be a good father as well to my kids. I hope that when my kids need me, I’m there for them as you have been for me all these years. I hope that when my kids have doubts that I’m there to squash them. Happy Father’s Day.
Who has never heard of pole dancing! Unfortunately, the impressions we have are tarnished by all the sleaze that is associated with it, but take away the sleaze and what you have is a very acrobatic, athletic art form. It is this attitude to pole dancing that we want to focus on.
If you can’t imagine good, clean pole dancing, picture a gymnast on the balance beam, then take away the beam and replace it with a vertical pole. There you have it!
In our kids’ pole dancing class, we focus on teaching the tricks and the technique and since it can get quite technical, we try to incorporate dance moves into the program as well, it is a more holistic approach this way. Continue reading →
Despite all your care sunburn can sneak up on your child. When you spot even a slight redness of the skin or if your child starts feeling sick move your child indoors immediately and give him a cool bath. An application of pure Aloe Vera gel will reduce the burning sensation. Give your child an over the counter pain medicine and then apply a moisturizing cream regularly to hydrate the skin and reduce swelling. Make sure your child does not scratch or peel that burned skin that starts falling off after a week. Some doctors / expert will insist that parents do not apply any petroleum-based products as they prevent excess heat and sweat from escaping. Do rush your child to the doctor if your child has a fever, if the skin looks infected, your child complains of nausea, diarrhea or has trouble looking at the light. Continue reading →
Shortly after John’s first-month celebration, we received a belated present from my husband’s boss – two children’s books and a card that said, “Read to John. Give him a head start.”
My husband and I were delighted with the present because we ourselves were avid readers who had more shelf space for books than clothes, pots and pans, and sports equipment combined. I recalled the warm memories of reading when I was little – skipping along beside my mother as she led us to the Bordland Community Library where my sister and I would spend hours sitting cross-legged on the floor, devouring books of all kinds. As I wanted John to start building similar memories, I began reading to him immediately. Continue reading →
Just how many times have you wheedled your way into getting him to drive you to and fro on your shopping expeditions, and even outings with yourfriends? Well, most probably too many to count. Says administrative assistant Johnny, “My husband Bob is as used to waiting for me as I spend hours at the shopping mall that he comes to the shopping center armed with his newspapers and his own routine: first to the supermarket, then to the cafe to read each section slowly, word for word.
He even helps me with my shopping bags without a single word of complaint! Every year on Father’s day, I make it a point to celebrate with my patient husband by being his personal chauffeur for the day. Whether it is to an S-League soccer match, or making a trip to Japan for his favorite seafood, I make sure that I do the driving, so my hubby can just sit back, relax and enjoy his special day.” Continue reading →
With the number of sunscreens available it is difficult to work out which one is the best. According to her there are two basic types of sun protection creams — physical and chemical sun blocks. Physical sun blocks use either zinc or titanium oxide to reflect or scatter the UVA and UVB rays from the sun. However they may block our skin pores causing small papules to form. Chemical sun blockscontain several ingredients that absorb mainly UVB and seine UVA rays and prevent damage to the skin.
Another factor to study while buying a sunscreen lotion is the SPF written on the side of the bottle. The SPF or Sun Protection Factor is calculated by comparing the amount of time needed to produce sunburn on a protected skin to the amount of time needed to cause sunburn on unprotected skin. Please come and experienceof exhilarating fun swinging from tree to tree five meters above the ground!” read from website advertisement.
“Five meters above ground?” Hmph, I swear my five-year-old daughter Elaine jumps that high when she watches Kung Fu Panda and re-enacts the fight scenes on the family bed! I have a concave mattress to prove it.
Swinging from tree to tree? I snorted at the computer screen. Most is a figure of speech, because photos show children wearing helmets and safety harnesses, instead swinging on vines ala Tarzan. Continue reading →
Connie Parker, a full-timehometuition teacher, says, “Much as I thoroughly dislike soccer, I have a long standing agreement to sit through a whole soccer match with my hubby Mathew every Father’s day without attempting to switch the channel.
Needless to say, I tend to doze off halfway through the game every single year on his shoulder, but my hubby is happy as long as I am right by his side as he is doing his favorite activity. This year, I plan to drink an extra cup of coffee to try to actually stay awake for the wholegame!”
