Brave New World

Although slightly bored, the thought of being unfaithful never once crossed our minds, and we knew that the “ooh…ooh..” factor secretcould be taken up a notch, it was just a matter of how. Being a somewhat shy person, my husband was against any form of couple’s therapy, as he found it extremely discomforting, to say the least. I thus proceeded to go through my list of brilliant (or not so) suggestions, which included handcuffs, whipped cream and other overused ideas.

“So cliché, you obviously read too many magazines!” scoffed my bemused hubby.

“Well, do you have any better suggestions then,  Mr Computer Nerd?” I challenged him haughtily.

“I’m glad you asked, because as a matter of fact, I do have some ideas that I would like to run by you,” said my husband rather enthusiastically. Continue reading

Young Pole Dancer

Who has never heard of pole dancing! Unfortunately, the impressions we have are tarnished by all the sleaze that is associated with pole_dancing_lead_narrowweb__300x351,0it, but take away the sleaze and what you have is a very acrobatic, athletic art form. It is this attitude to pole dancing that we want to focus on.

If you can’t imagine good, clean pole dancing, picture a gymnast on the balance beam, then take away the beam and replace it with a vertical pole. There you have it!

In our kids’ pole dancing class, we focus on teaching the tricks and the technique and since it can get quite technical, we try to incorporate dance moves into the program as well, it is a more holistic approach this way. Continue reading

Sunburn (Outdoor Activities)

When you spot even a slight redness of the skin or if your child starts feeling sick move your child indoors immediately and give him a cool bath. An application of pure Aloe Vera gel will reduce the burning sensation. Give your child an over the counter pain medicine and then apply a moisturizing cream regularly to hydrate the skin and reduce swelling. Make sure your child does not scratch or peel that burned skin that starts falling off after a week. Some doctors / expert will insist that parents do not apply any petroleum-based products as they prevent excess heat and sweat from escaping. Do rush your child to the doctor if your child has a fever, if the skin looks infected, your child complains of nausea, diarrhea or has trouble looking at the light. Continue reading

Pregnancy Soothing Backpain

To minimize back pains, here are some simple things to do:backpainpregnancy

  1. Cut down on your physical activities, especially those that stress the lower back and pelvis, like climbing stairs, walking long distances and standing for long periods.
  2. Sleeping with your face up puts a lot of pressure on your back. Lying on your side with a pillow between your knees would reduce the pressure. If you are used to sleeping on your back, placing a pillow under your knees can cut the pressure by half.
  3. Another small pillow under the lower back will also help.
  4. Control your diet to avoid excessive weight gain, which will make the strain worse.
  5. Strengthen your back muscles through exercise or yoga.

The seven yoga poses below are good for strengthening the lower back, and increasing lung capacity and elasticity for easy delivery. How Much Stimulation?

You want your baby to have a head start in life, to be an interested learner who is full of curiosity. And there is no doubt that your baby’s development depends on the level of stimulation he receives at home. For instance, he is more likely to babble loudly if you speak to him, play with him, sing to him, and tell him stories in the early months in life. Likewise, he is more likely to show an interest in his surroundings if he is given exciting toys that will attract his attention. Your baby responds positively to this sort of stimulation — quite simply, it helps him thrive.babywalk

But finding the balance between too little, too much, and just the right amount can be difficult. Under-stimulation of your baby eventually causes him to be passive and lethargic — lack of toys, games, attention from parents, songs and other play activities has this effect. Are You Over Feeding Your Baby?

Feeding is such an essential activity for your baby, both physically and emotionally. It provides basic nourishment to ensure that 468_baby_feeding_i_stickshe thrives and it also provides psychological comfort. You feel good inside when you see her take a “proper” feed. But the problem lies in not knowing when to stop, not (snowing how to ensure that your baby is not over-fed.

Because your three-month-old will probably drink every drop of milk she gets, and your one-year-old will most likely gulp down one bowl of cereal after the other without the slightest prompting. The tendency to put on weight is partly an inherited characteristic. Some babies put on more weight than others even though they eat approximately the same amount.

In many instances, obesity is simply due to over-feeding. Research also shows that adults who are fat were more likely to have been fat as babies, when compared to adults who are thin. And the habit of over-eating, which starts during babyhood, can be hard to break later on. Continue reading

Screening the Sunscreen

With the number of sunscreens available it is difficult to work out which one is the best. According to her there are two basic types of sun protection creams — physical and chemical sun blocks. Physical sun blocks use either zinc or titanium oxide to reflect or scatter the UVA and UVB rays from the sun. However they may block our skin pores causing small papules to form. Chemical sun blocks contain several ingredients that absorb mainly UVB and seine UVA rays and prevent damage to the skin.

Another factor to study while buying a sunscreen lotion is the SPF written on the side of the bottle. The SPF or Sun Protection Factor is calculated by comparing the amount of time needed to produce sunburn on a protected skin to the amount of time needed to cause sunburn on unprotected skin. Having Fun under the Lovely Sun.

There is nothing better than having our kids playing outdoors, making new friends, feeling the breeze blowing through their hair and exercising without even realizing it. But even as our kids are having the time of their lives, studies show that we have a reason to be cautious and careful — after all most children rack up 50 – 80 per cent of their sun exposure before the age of 18. How many of us can keep our children indoors during the recommended hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.?
